GMAT QUANT Week 2
During week 2 of your GMAT Quant preparation we will be focusing on exponents/roots/absolute value, Data Suffiency strategy, and some specific types of word problems (rates/work, averages, ratios, percent change). All of the underlying algebra is the same as the algebra from week 1 but these question types respond well to some GMAT specific tools and strategies. For GMAT Work/Rate strategy take a look at these GMAT Questions of the Day and the accompanying explanations. These should get you 99% of the way there!:

This is a big week for Data Sufficiency. Learn how to count equations. Learn the concept of Yes/No. Learn about defining a threshold. Understand when it is appropriate to pick numbers. Practice using special numbers (0, 1, +, -, decimals, integers). You are not going to be a DS expert this week but start learning how to be organized in your Data Sufficiency approach.
Here are GMAT questions of the day to practice Data Sufficiency, specifically with exponents:

This week you may start to feel that the work has gotten more difficult. In some senses it has but the reality is that you don’t have that “fresh” energy from week one. You may start to feel that there is an overwhelming amount of work to get done and that you will never be able to learn everything. This feeling is normal. Be OK with it. Keep studying:)
GMAT VERBAL Week 2
Week two of verbal is all about Sentence Correction and Reading Comprehension strategy. Pick a strategy for Sentence Correction and start reviewing the major grammar rules as they relate to the GMAT. I would suggest a strategy based around the major error types: Agreement, Parallelism (lists/comparisons), and Modifiers. Most Sentence Correction questions can be conquered by analyzing these three categories of errors so I would get really familiar with the rules surrounding these three categories. Remember to focus on the structure of the sentence and the meaning of sentence (ignore how things sound). Here are some Sentence Correction posts that might be helpful: Here, Here, Here, and Here.
Pick a strategy for your GMAT Reading Comprehension. In general: simpler is better. The most important thing is to pick a reading strategy which helps you focus on the important information in the passage so that after reading the passage you come away with the main idea, primary purpose, and authors point of view. I am not a big fan of skimming or skipping portions of the passage but of slowing down and focusing on the important information. Spend more time reading and understanding so that you spend less time surfing through the answer choices. The other thing that I find helpful in GMAT Reading Comprehension is to anticipate the correct answer. For most GMAT Reading Comprehension questions you should be able to come up with an answer in advance. If you are unable to do this on a consistent basis (and you are disappointed with your RC scores) then you should re-consider your reading strategy because you are probably missing the important points in the passage. Also, keep reading the Economist!

Here comes week 3 of the GMAT Study Schedules!
Hi Andrew! I was hoping to use your GMAT study schedule online but I unfortunately bought the latest edition of the guides (only Kindle version available).
When will you update the study schedule to reflect the order of the question types in the latest edition of the guides?
Hi Stacey – getting the new guides was the right move! Updating the GMAT schedules for 2016 is on my list. Hopefully I’ll have the targeted sets updated in the next few weeks. Good luck with the preparation!
A.
Hey Andy. I am a little confused with what the numbers represent. Are those the question numbers to practice on a particular day?
Hi Rob – Glad that the GMAT schedules are getting some use. Exactly right. Those are the questions to hit on those particular days. Good luck with the GMAT preparation. Follow up with any questions!
Happy studies,
A.
Hey Andrew have you had a chance to update the schedule for the 2016 version? Is there a new link?
Hi Vy,
Apologies for taking forever to get back to your question. The GMAT schedule isn’t updated for the new versions of the official guide. Two things that you can do:
1. Just buy the Official Guide 13th edition. You can get it super cheap and it’s not that different from the new guides. You can even buy the 2018 guides in addition so that you have some extra new questions.
2. Follow the organization of the schedule but sub in your own sets from the the 2016, 2017, or 2018 guides. You might be able to find the content from those guides broken down by type on the forums.
Whatever you do: Be organized in your studying:)! Good luck!!!
A.
